37 Weeks

Baby is now considered “full term,” even though the due date is three weeks away. If I go into labor now, her lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb.

Baby weighs about 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long.  I sure hope baby gets Andrew’s full head of curly hair!

Is it just me or are you wondering how much bigger that belly can get?

You know your in your 3rd trimester when…… you go to the bathroom on the second story of your house, walk down to the basement to get laundry and have to stop for a potty break again, then use the ladies room one more time when you return to your bedroom on the second story.Ugh.

We had a little blood test scare this week.  My blood work came back with an abnormally low platelet count.   Normal platelet counts are in the mid 100s – high hundreds and mine had dropped to 85.  My midwife was so prompt about getting this figured out… without stressing me out.  We re-took the test and put a rush on results.  The second test came back a lot more normal (we think the first was an error).  Since the count was still a tad low, we went to see a blood doctor for a second opinion.  He cleared us and thinks everything will be fine for birth.  I am really thankful everything looks good and even more thankful Anita covered all bases to make sure of it.  The calm urgency she had and the way she reached out for more opinions than her own give me even more confidence in her taking care of me and baby.

This week’s prenatal went well.  It was a quick meeting because I have so much going on at work (wrapping things up!)  Her heart beat was 138 and strong. She is already head down and hanging out on my right side at the moment.  I love when Anita points out limbs and butts and backs.  So amazing to realize this thing in my tummy is developed enough to be born at this point!  We are talking (obviously) a lot more about birth and a few more preparations for it.  Anita recommended www.spinningbabies.com as a resource for me these next few weeks.  Daily, I am already doing some moving and shaking to get her in the right position but this website lays it out really well and gave me a few more ideas.

I think she might have dropped this week too.  It’s hard to tell but I woke up Monday morning thinking so and have since had several girlfriends (and Avon representatives) tell me she has.  We shall see!
