She has taken over my stomach! Instead of just seeing cute little pulses when she kicks, my WHOLE tummy will start to move from side to side when she feels like squirming! A few nights ago I couldn’t sleep at all BUT I was ok because with my hand on my stomach I could feel her moving! Not just kicking but moving or turning over or practicing gymnastics or something. As strange as this feeling is (feels like there is an alien invasion in my tummy) it’s also amazing. It took a few days after I first felt the new movement for Andrew to feel but he can now feel her moving not just kicking too! She is becoming more real to me with every kick and movement she makes. I am starting to notice her schedule. She of course loves to get her moving & shaking party started when I am ready to calm down for the day.
On the development side: she’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts her at just over a pound. Since she’s almost a foot long, like an ear of corn, she cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and she’ll soon start to plump up. Her brain is also growing quickly now, and the taste buds are continuing to develop. Her lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. Her skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
