22 Weeks

Man-oh-man was last week a blur! Mom was here all week (wonderful), work was insane (normal), we found out we are having a baby GIRL (blessing), and we had a SEX PARTY (so fun)!

To let our friends in on our new found discovery, we had a SEX PARTY Sunday evening. Several of our dear friends came for a BBQ and guessed what they thought the baby would be (boy or girl). We announced it over dinner and all the winners got a prize. It was a blast and I am SO thankful to our incredible friends for coming and supporting us in this new phase of life. It was so fun to share our excitement yesterday.

So, here we are at 22 weeks. At a whopping 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. HER lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and she’s even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. Her eyes have formed, but her irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside the womb, you’d be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her body and the deep wrinkles on the skin, which she’ll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside her belly, the pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

This week has been really fun. Finding out this baby is a SHE instantly helped Andrew and I bond with the unborn being in my belly. It has been so sweet to picture our lives in 4.5 months with a little girl in the picture. Mom got to feel the baby move, which is a milestone. Andrew can feel her every night easily and I feel her almost hourly. I am starting to feel some ailments of my body changing. I have never weighed this much before and my body is starting to react. Hips and back are starting to shout at me and sleep is just not the same. I am making adjustments and get sleep in when I can.

A new found joy: being full. Pre-baby bump, when I ate too much I would suck my stomach in, trying to hid the buldge. Maybe even put on a sweater to cover it up. You know the feeling if you are a female. These days, it’s glorious because when I’m full I let it all hang out and it’s a cute (slightly larger) baby bump!
