17 Weeks

Baby’s about 5 ounces this week but starting to feel more like 5 pounds! Man oh man after I eat a meal the tummy grows! This week we have evolved into a turnip (which I had to Google because I couldn’t picture how big that was or what it looked like… I need to cook more). The little thang measures about 5″ from top to bottom.

Baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — the lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. He/she can move the joints, and the sweat glands are starting to develop.

I feel pretty good this week. I do think I need more rest because after my sales meeting Saturday I took a 2 hour nap when usually I am so energized I could climb a mountain! Everyone keeps telling me I should feel the baby any day now so I keep trying to make time to focus on that. I don’t know exactly what I am trying to feel here, I think I get my heart beat and gas mixed up as potential baby kicks….. Hopefully soon I will know for sure my baby is in there.

  1. Hey Summer! Someone once told me those first kicks feel like fish swimming around in one of those plastic bags you take home from Petco. I couldn't agree more! Also, for me, the best position to feel the kicking in was lying flat on my back. Such an exciting time in pregnancy!

  2. You'll know it when you feel it! It does feel like gas, but uhhh, without anything happening to put it politely. It does feel like a little fish and then one day, POW, a strong one that you can't wait to feel again so your husband can also experience it!
